Nambucca Macnuts is delighted to announce that our Macksville factory is processing macadamia nut-in-shell again from season 2020.
Macnuts has been in the macadamia processing industry since 1998, supporting the growers of the NSW Mid North Coast area. Recently we started processing organic macadamia in-shell from local growers in the NSW Mid North Coast area and will be processing around 120 tonne of organic nut each year, as well as smaller consignments of conventional in-shell.
As Vince Collins, General Manager of Macnuts explains, “We were processing conventional macadamias until 2013 but decided to outsource the cracking of in-shell nuts to Stahmann Farm Enterprises. Due to economies of scale Stahmanns were able to do it more cheaply than Macnuts. We have continued to receive in-shell from local growers, sort these nuts using the popular Multiscan system, dry them down and value add at the Macnuts factory to make our many products.”
Nambucca Macnuts is the largest organic processor in Australia.
Several years ago, half a dozen local growers decided to go organic and now produce most of the organic macadamia in-shell in Australia. Stahmanns were processing this organic nut however, with the relatively small quantities involved and as Macnuts was their only supplier of organic in-shell, Macnuts decided to purchase updated processing equipment and commence processing again. The purchase, installation and testing of the organic processing line has now been completed and processing has begun.
Our factory has HACCP accreditation, is ACO (organic) certified and has an AMS accredited laboratory. The Macnuts factory can now process organic and conventional macadamia in-shell, along with value adding macadamia kernel products such as our extremely popular honey roasted nuts.
