The 2024 harvest season has been one for the books—thanks to wild weather, unexpected delays, and a whole lot of patience from our incredible growers. If you’ve been eagerly awaiting this year’s fresh batch of premium Australian macadamia nuts, we’ve got the inside scoop on what’s been happening in the orchards of the pristine Nambucca Valley and what’s coming next.

Why the Delay? Blame the Rain (and Cyclone Alfred!) 🌧️💨

Macadamia nuts are unique—they don’t fall from the trees until they’re perfectly ripe, and once they do, they’re picked from the ground. Sometimes by hand, mostly by mechanical sweepers.

Naturally, weather plays a huge role in timing the harvest. This year, heavy rains and Cyclone Alfred left the ground too soggy for harvesting equipment, pushing back the start of this year’s harvest.

Good News. The sun is gradually beating back the rain clouds, the orchards are drying out, and we’re gearing up for nut pickup for a few months. The slight delay means this season’s organic and premium macadamias will be extra special—nature’s way of rewarding us for our patience!

When Does Macadamia Season Normally Run? 

For those new to the world of macadamias, here’s a quick breakdown:

Harvest typically begins in March/April as mature nuts begin to drop from the trees.

Peak season runs through to September, when the new blossoms finally burst out through the orchard

Processing continues for months as we crack, sort, and pack the nuts for you.

This year’s late start means fresh 2025 nuts will arrive a little later than usual.

Growers’ Meeting: A Bright Outlook for 2024 

Earlier this week, we hosted our annual growers’ meeting at the factory, and the mood was electric! Despite the weather challenges, our farming partners are optimistic about this year’s crop. The trees are healthy, the nuts are sizing up beautifully, and we’re expecting another premium-quality harvest.
